FERNS
Private house, Geneva, Switzerland, hand-painted mural, gesso and egg tempera and leaf copper, commissioned by Kerylos Architecture, Paris, 2005
Spiralling open, fern fronds and fiddleheads spread across the walls, which can’t contain them; they inch behind the moulding to spread out across the ceiling. They are scaled to tower over you and envelop you in a forest of ferns. The grand scale is first carefully worked out on a miniature stage to direct the action and solve the questions of size and pattern before mounting the full production.
